Cookie Policy

Last updated: July 12, 2026

Pling is designed to collect as little as possible. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site behavioral profiling. This policy explains the storage technologies that touch your browser — both Pling's own and the third-party measurement we use — and how to control them.

1. First-party storage (Pling)

Browser localStorage

Pling stores your chosen display name in your browser's localStorage so you don't have to retype it when you open another room. We also store your cookie consent choice ("accepted" or "rejected") in localStorage. Neither value leaves your device or is sent to our servers.

Essential session state

While you are inside a room, Pling keeps signaling state in memory so your audio, video, and chat messages reach other participants. This is strictly necessary for the Service to function and is discarded when you leave or close the room.

2. Cloudflare Web Analytics

Pling is served behind Cloudflare, which provides our edge, TLS, and DDoS protection. Cloudflare may store Cloudflare Web Analytics cookies (such as __cf_bm and related tokens) to aggregate page-view metrics and to help distinguish humans from automated traffic. These cookies are privacy-preserving and are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.

Cloudflare also retains short-lived edge logs (including IP address and request timing) for security and performance. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.

3. Google Tag Manager & Google Analytics

Pling loads Google Tag Manager (GTM), which in turn loads Google Analytics 4 (GA4). We use these tools to understand which pages and features are used so we can improve Pling — not to sell ads or track you across the web.

These services may set the following cookies on the Pling domain:

  • _ga — distinguishes unique visitors, 2-year duration;
  • _ga_<container-id> — GA4 session/state cookie, 2-year duration;
  • Additional GTM-managed cookies depending on the tags we enable, all for site analytics.

Google may also log request metadata (IP, user agent) when the GA4 endpoint is reached. See Google's privacy policy for details. Where required, we have configured GA4 to anonymize IP addresses at collection.

4. PostHog

After you accept measurement cookies, Pling uses PostHog for product analytics. PostHog stores a first-party identifier and session information in browser storage, typically using a key beginning ph_. This lets us associate the limited product events we explicitly send during a visit; we disable PostHog's automatic click and page-view capture. PostHog is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and our PostHog endpoint is hosted in the EU.

PostHog may process a pseudonymous browser identifier, device and browser information, IP address, and the event data described in our Privacy Policy. See PostHog's privacy policy for details.

5. Cookies we do not use

  • No advertising or marketing cookies (no Google Ads, no Meta Pixel);
  • No cross-site behavioral tracking or retargeting;
  • No cookies that identify you across unrelated services.

6. Consent and control

When you first visit Pling, a banner asks whether you accept measurement cookies. If you decline, Pling still works normally — PostHog does not load, while privacy-preserving Cloudflare edge cookies and first-party localStorage continue to function. Your choice is stored in localStorage and remembered for future visits.

You can manage cookies and local storage at any time:

  • Clear site data for pling.banegasn.dev in your browser settings;
  • Block third-party cookies and fonts in your browser to remove Google's and Cloudflare's cookies;
  • Use a private/incognito window, which discards cookies when you close it.

7. Changes to this policy

If Pling ever changes how it uses cookies or local storage, we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
